US ENVOY MEETS PML-Q LEADERSHIP-US TO MOBILIZE INVESTORS FOR PAK PRIVATISATION PROGRAM

The United States Ambassador to Pakistan Mr. Cameron Munter held a meeting with Chaudhry Shaujat Hussain, President PML-Q and other senior leaders of PML (Q) namely Mr. Ghous Bux Khan Maher President PML-Q Sindh Province and Federal Minister for Privatisation, Rana Asif Tauseef, Minister of State for Privatisation and Mr. Anwar Ali Cheema, Federal Minister here today.

During the meeting, beside other issues, the Federal Minister for Privatisation Mr. Ghous Bux Khan Mahar gave a detailed briefing to the envoy on the Privatisation Program of Pakistan, highlighting the potential investment opportunities for international investors in multiple sectors including financial services, Oil & Gas and Power Sector.

The Government of Pakistan was committed to vigorously pursuing the Privatisation Program as a means to reforming the State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) by bringing in the much needed private sector managerial talent and capital resources to improve efficiency, service and the production for the betterment of the common man and to make value addition to national assets, the Minister said and urged on the US Ambassador to mobilize US based investors for participation in the upcoming privatisation transactions.

The US Ambassador to Pakistan Mr. Cameron Munter showed keen interest in the Privatisation Program and appreciated the commitment of the Government of Pakistan despite the present multiple challenges emergent from domestic security situation and global financial environment. He assured full support of the Government of the United State of America for the Privatisation Program in terms of mobilizing US investors and extended technical support to the Government of Pakistan.

Both sides agreed to remain engaged on several economic sector issues including privatisation program in order to further strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries.
