The Privatisation Commission is holding a one-day Conference on,
“Privatisation with Public Private Partnership” at a local hotel in Islamabad
on Friday July 3, 2009. Syed Naveed Qamar Federal Minister for Privatisation
will chair the Conference while Mr. Shaukat Tarin, Advisor to PM on Finance,
Revenue, Economic Affairs and Statistics will be the Chief Guest.
The Conference includes one plenary and three technical sessions, to be
addressed by eminent bankers and investors. Mr. Yusupha Crookes, Country
Director, The World Bank will speak on “World Bank’s perspective on the
privatisations that have happened in Pakistan”, Dr. Ishrat Hussain, Director
and Dean, IBA, Karachi on “ Recent Privatisations in Pakistan and their
impacts on respective sectors”, Dr. Ashfaq Hasan Khan, Dean NUST Business
School on “Socio Economic impacts of privatisation” and Mr. Saeed Ahmed
Qureshi, Former Secretary General Finance on “Nationalization and
Privatisation in the current age”.
In the first Technical Session “ Privatisation policy 2009: International best
practices in privatisation” will be discussed while Mr. Salman Ali Shaikh,
Chairman SECP will be the Panel Chairman while the panel includes Mr. Moazzam
Mekan, Director, International Finance Corporation, Dubai, Mr. Khalid Nazir,
Corporate Vice President, AEI, Middle East, Mr. Abdullah Yousaf, Former
Secretary, PC and Chairman, FBR and Mr. Jahangir Masud, MD, PMD International,
London.
“Innovative structuring of privatisation transactions in power, infrastructure
and capital markets” will be discussed in the Second Technical Session chaired
by Mr. Shahzada Alam Monnoo, Eminent industrialist and former chairman PC
while panel speakers include Mr. Ali Nadir Syed, MD and Head of Investment
Banking, Middle East, Fairfax Investment Bank, Engr. Pervez Ahmed Butt, Member
(Energy), Planning Commission, Mr. Ali Omar Iqtidar, Director Utilities &
Power, Citi Group, Dubai, Mr. Zafar Ali Khan, Member, NEPRA and Mr. Naveed
Ismail, MD, KESC.
The Third Technical Session will discuss “Investors’ / Stakeholders views
regarding privatisation” with Mr. Sultan Allana, Chairman, Board of Directors,
HBL in chair, Pir Saad Ahsanuddin, Director, Republic Engineering Corporation,
Mr. Kairas N. Kabraji, Kabraji & Talibuddin, Karachi and Mr. Muneer Kamal,
President & CEO, KASB Bank will speak on the subject.
The Secretary Privatisation Mr. Ahmed Jawad will welcome the delegates and
will present the core findings of the three technical sessions. Syed Naveed
Qamar Federal Minister for Privatisation will deliver his concluding address.
