President calls for making employees stakeholders in State run entities

One of the most pragmatic ways to increase efficiency and productivity is to make the employees as shareholders in the profit and management of the organizations.

President Asif Ali Zardari said this during a meeting on the empowerment of the employees of the State owned entities (SOEs) in the Presidency today.

Spokesperson to the President former Senator Farhatullah Babar quoted the President as saying “Incentive driven management of entities motivates the workforce to do more and produce more,”.

The President said that worker’s participation not only enhanced growth but also ensured protection and security of the assets as they had direct stakes in the viability and profitability of the entities in which they were also the shareholders.

Giving briefing the Federal Minister for Privatisation Syed Naveed Qamar said that a total of 86 entities had been identified under the scheme in which workers will be made shareholder. These included 16 listed and 33 unlisted public companies, 23 private companies and 14 entities established under Special Act and Ordinances.

Syed Naveed Qamar said that initially the workers would be given 12 percent of the government shares in the entities which will be increased furtherin the future.

The meeting was attended by Mian Manzoor Ahmed Watto, Minsiter for Industries & Production, Syed Naveed Qamar, Minister for Privatisation, Haji Ghulam Ahmed Bilour, Minister for Railways, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Minister for Water & Power, Mr. M Salman Faruqui, Secretary General to the President and senior government officials of relevant ministries.
