Privatisation Commission Presentation to President


 

President Asif Ali Zardari has said that Private public partnership instead of unchecked privatisation was the norm.

 

He made these remarks during a briefing on Privatisation Program made by the Privatisation Commission in the Presidency yesterday on December 31, 2008.

 

The briefing was attended by Syed Naveed Qamar, Federal Minister for Privatisation, Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo, Minister for Industries & Production, Mr. Waqar Ahmed Khan, Minister for Investment, Mr. Farooq H. Naik, Minister for Law & Justice, Sardar Assef Ali, Deputy Chairman Planning Commission, Mr. Shaukat Tareen, Advisor to the Prime Minister for Finance and other concerned officials.

 

Briefing the meeting, Minister for Privatisation said that the government was pursuing Privatisation in an open, fair and transparent manner, for the benefit of the people of Pakistan.

 

The meeting was informed that there is clear need for private sector to be inducted to enhance the over all image through capital injection and use of modern technology.

 

The President said that the privatisation policy introduced by Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto had become bipartisan state policy. He said privatization needed to be carried out through a consultative process with all stakeholders especially the workers and labor unions.

He said that Pakistan Peopleʼs Party and their allies adhere to new dimension of privatisation to face the challenges of the future. He also said that labor friendly policies would be introduced to cater to the needs of laborers and to safeguard their interests.
