HAFEEZ LEAVES FOR JORDAN TO LEAD PAKISTAN IN WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM

Islamabad, May 2, 2005

Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, Federal Minister for Privatisation & Investment has arrived Jordan to lead Pakistani delegation in the World Economic Forum (WEF) being held in Amman (Dead sea) from May 20-22, 2005.

The Minister will lead in the discussion on, 'The Lure of the Middle East- Attracting FDI'. The WEF is focusing on creating highest-level International platforms for world's business and government leaders to work together with their counterparts in the Middle East.

The WEF is currently working with G-8 and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) as well as with Arab business and government leaders for developing number of projects, which also include building a Middle East Scenario 2010 to focus on the social and economic priorities facing the Arab World over the next five years and creating a platform for improved understanding between Islam and the West through a  Council of 100 eminent persons chaired by Lord Carey of Clifton, former Archbishop of Canterbury and HRH Prince Turki Al Faisal Al Saud.

The moot is being participate by over 1000 leaders from business, religion, governments, academia and civil society to press forward with private sector involvement to stimulate growth and employment in the Middle East.

Dr. Shaikh will also held separate meetings with the delegates to apprise them about the privatisation and investment opportunities in Pakistan in the IT, Telecom, Petroleum & Natural Resources, Housing development, Commercial Transport and other feasible projects.
