The privatisation process of Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited
(PTCL) has build up tremendous momentum in this transaction with bidder's
actively engaging PTCL in queries and receiving suitable responses. In order
to maintain this momentum and to facilitate the privatisation process, a
meeting of the inter-ministerial committee constituted by the Prime Minister
to review the enabling legislative framework to facilitate privatistion of
PTCL and promote investment in the telecom sector, a meeting of the Committee
was held under the chairmanship of Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh Federal Minister
for Privatisation & Investment here today.
The meeting reviewed the proposed changes to the enabling legislation and took
decisions to finalise these in order to facilitate the privatisation and
investment process of Telecom sector.
The meeting was by attended by the members of the Committee Minister for
Information Technology, Minister for Communications, Minister for Law, Justice
and Human Rights Division, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance,
Secretary, Cabinet Division, Chairman PTA, Secretary, IT & Telecom Division
and senior representatives of Cabinet Division, IT & Telecom Division, PTA,
Ministry of Law and Justice, Frequency Allocation Board and the Privatisation
Commission.
