HAFEEZ RETURNS HOME AFTER ADDRESSING ECOSOC CONFERENCE AT USA

Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh Federal Minister for Privatisation & Investment has returned home after completing his official visit to New York where he delivered his keynote address in a special high-level meeting of United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the Bretton Woods Institution, the World Trade Organisation and United Nations Conference on Trade & Development at UN Headquarters.

The objective of the event was to address issues of coherence, coordination and cooperation as follow up to the international conference on financing and development. It was an opportunity to create a free-flowing dialogue between a panel of Ministers, senior officials and the high level participants of ECOSOC. The meeting having special significance as a first of a series of key events aimed to contribute to an effective outcome of the  September Summit, which will review the implementation of the Millennium Declaration.

The Minister held meetings with international participants and briefed them about the economic policies and economic reform agenda being pursued by the Government. The Minister also held meeting with targeted investors and businessmen in USA and briefed them regarding the Privatisation Program and Investment opportunities in Pakistan.

Dr. Hafeez Shaikh will address session-VIII of Pakistan Development Forum at Jinnah Convention Center, Islamabad on 'Investment & Privatisation' at 1500 hrs on Tuesday April 26, 2005. In the evening a high level Malaysian delegation led by Malaysian Minister for Works will hold meeting with Dr. Shaikh.
