FOR PROJECT MANAGEMENT MONITORING INVOLVEMENT OF SOCIETY IS MUST - Dr. Hafeez Shaikh

Islamabad, April 12, 2005

The government development projects belong to every citizen, therefore, for successful and timely execution of such projects demand that the society must be involved for projects management monitoring. Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh Federal Minister for Privatisation & Investment stated this while addressing the inaugural session of a seminar on 'Project Management' held under the auspices of Iqra University Islamabad campus here today.

Dr. Hafeez Shaikh said that the District governments being closer to the  people could play vital and effective role in this regard. There was a need  to enhance our human resource capacity to identify, develop, evaluate, adopt modern techniques, allocate finances, implement, and to complete the projects by making them operational according to our needs, he stated.

The Minister further stated that Pakistan's Annual Development Program of about Rs.200 billion assigns high value for employment generation and more revenues for the government, which could only be achieved by making the government more efficient.

He suggested that every government institution should display out side  their premises in a prominent way, the figure of financial grant/ support being received by them for their projects along with the staff strength involved for executing these projects so that the people could ask questions regarding the projects meant for their development.

Replying to a question, the Minister said that tremendous acceleration has been noticed during the past five years in the privatisation process of public sector entities. Thrice attempts to privatise PTCL in the past could not succeed, however, this time it would be successful, he hoped.

Earlier, Sr. Sardar Ansari in his paper said that the difficulties should  be removed at the identification stage of the projects, which could ensure  the timely completion of the projects. Mr. Hunaid Lakhani, Chancellor Iqra University and the Vice Chancellor were also present during the seminar.
