The Federal Minister for Privatisation & Investment Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh
will inaugurate two-day Conference on 'INVESTING IN PAKISTAN-2003' being held
in collaboration with the Board of Investment under the auspices of IBC Gulf
Conferences at Islamabad on Tuesday December 9, 2003 at 1430 hrs.
The Conference will provide a high level platform for building private sector
partnerships for further investment and development in Pakistan. It will also
discuss the scope of investment in various sectors. The continuing measures
undertaken by the Government for major structural reforms, which has lead to
significant economic growth, will be highlighted by the panel of speakers.
The inaugural session will be followed by a session on 'Government Investment
Strategies & Finance to be addressed by Mr. Shaukat Aziz, Minister for
Finance, Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, Minister for Privatisation & Investment, Mr.
Liaqat Ali Jatoi, Minister for Industries & Production, Dr. Ishrat Hussain,
Governor State Bank of Pakistan, Mr. Waseem Haqqie, Chairman Board of
Investment and other speakers.
On the concluding day the Conference in its four sessions will discuss the
investment opportunities in Telecommunication & IT, Petroleum & Natural
Resources, Water & Power and Infrastructure & Transport sectors. Mr. Awais
Ahmed Khan Leghari, Minister for IT & Telecom, Ch. Nauraiz Shakoor Khan,
Minister for Petroleum & Natural Resources, Mr. Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao,
Minister for Water & Power and Mr. Ghaus Bakhsh Mahar, Minister for Railways
will chair the respective sessions. These sessions include speakers from both
the Public sector entities and Private sector Chief Executives. Around 150
delegates from USA, UK, UAE, Qatar, Lebanon, Iran, Kazakhstan and Pakistan are
participating in the Conference.
