MINISTER FOR PRIVATISATION TO ATTEND ASIA CONFERENCE BOAO FORUM

The Federal Minister for Privatisation, Mr. Altaf M. Saleem, landed in China
to attend the first annual conference of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA). The
conference is a two day long event (from April 12-13) in Boao, at the BFA's
headquarter in South China's island province of Hainan.
Participants include State leaders, Ministers, Celebrities, Scholars and
business representatives. Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji will head a delegation to
the conference and deliver the keynote address.
The general theme of the conference is: 'A New Century, New Situation and New
Task-Cooperation and Development of Asian Economy'. The BFA's functions and
services include six Es i.e. Economic forum, Exchange of information,
Evaluation based on research, Education & training, Exhibition & exposition
and E-service. BFA's objective is to be an Asia based global forum, which can
provide an international platform for political, business and academic leaders
to speak together on an equal footing.
BFA, initiated in 1998 by former Philippine President FidelV. Ramos, former
Australian Prime Minister Bob Hawke, and former Japanese Prime Minister
Morihiro Hosokawa, is the first non-profit, non governmental international
organisation headquartered in China.
The conference will begin with a plenary session and three concurrent
sessions, namely: a regional cooperation series, a sector strategy series and
a country outlook series.
Mr. Saleem also represented Pakistan in the 2nd Eurasia Economic Summit at
Almatay, Kazakhstan on April 8-9 earlier this month.
